1. Why We Publish
We publish guides on construction costs, takeoff methods, bidding and estimating terms to help contractors, owners and design teams make better decisions. Our goal is practical, accurate information written by people who estimate construction for a living.
2. Who Writes and Reviews Our Content
- Articles are written or drafted by members of our estimating team or by writers working with them.
- Every cost guide and technical article is reviewed by a senior estimator with experience in the trade or project type before it is published.
- Each article shows the author or reviewer, the date it was published and the date it was last updated.
3. Sources and Cost Data
Cost information in our guides comes from a combination of:
- our own estimating experience and anonymized project data (never identifying a client or a bid);
- recognized cost references such as RSMeans data;
- public sources such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Census Bureau and prevailing-wage determinations; and
- current supplier and manufacturer pricing.
We cite public sources where possible and show cost figures as ranges with the location, date and assumptions behind them.
4. Accuracy and Updates
Construction prices change. We review cost guides at least once a year and update them sooner when prices move significantly. If you find an error or an out-of-date figure, email us and we will check it; confirmed corrections are made promptly and significant changes are noted on the article.
5. Independence
We do not accept payment for coverage of products or software. Software we mention is software our team uses or has evaluated. If a page ever includes a sponsored or affiliate link, it will be clearly labeled.
6. Use of Tools and AI
We may use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help with research, outlines or editing. A human estimator is responsible for every published page, checks every fact and figure, and approves the final text.
7. Using Our Content
Guides are general information, not an estimate for your project — see our Disclaimer. You may quote short passages with a link to the source page; please ask before republishing full articles or graphics.
8. Corrections and Contact
Report a correction or ask about our sources: contact@professionalestimatingservices.com (subject: Editorial).
